New Company to Target Energy Management and Heavier Duty Higher Power Battery System Applications

Woodridge, IL – December 7, 2012 – Alan ElShafei, a “Chicago Entrepreneur of the Year” awardee, is pleased to announce the formation of Navitas Systems LLC—formerly known as MicroSun IESS, LLC. “Navitas is Latin for ‘Energy’, and our energy directly translates to passion for solving customers’ challenging energy applications” said ElShafei, Founder and Chairman of the new company. ”With prices of lithium batteries continuing to fall, a rapidly expanding number of commercial, military, and industrial applications are able to benefit from the higher cycle life, smaller footprint and lower lifetime costs of advanced large format lithium energy storage solutions that Navitas will be offering“ concluded ElShafei.

According to a recent report by market research firm Frost & Sullivan, “Electric energy storage systems are crucial for the further development and transformation of a range of sectors, including renewable energy, automotive, grid stabilization, smart grid, back-up power and portable devices”.
Added Samer ElShafei, Navitas Systems Co-Founder, “Customers have a diverse range of needs, and so Navitas Systems is organized to create the ideal combination of batteries, power management, packaging, and comprehensive software needed to harmonize the entire system safely into demanding applications like renewable power systems, motive power, other legacy power systems, and idle reduction systems—all on a case-by case basis.

According to a recent presentation by Linda Gaines of the US Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratories, idling vehicles can consume up to a gallon of fuel per hour. Advanced onboard battery power could reduce the need for engine idling, saving fuel and reducing pollution.

“Customers who need secure and reliable power delivery combined with energy storage for mission-critical and defense applications will find Navitas Systems to be a fully vertically-integrated system design and manufacturing partner that provides highly cost-effective solutions” said Mark Aramli, Navitas Systems Vice President of Sales & Business Development. Along with the formation of the company, Navitas Systems also unveiled its new web site, www.navitassys.com. “Stay tuned for a series of announcements on a variety of high performance advanced battery systems that are innovatively packaged with sophisticated battery management systems and power management electronics”, Aramli concluded.
