Navitas is a leader in the lithium battery material handling market; designing, manufacturing and distributing lithium batteries to the motive market.


Navitas Systems is seeking a commercial/industrial product manager who will be a leader supporting the sales team generating requirements, specifications, and a product roadmap to continue to lead the industrial lithium battery market.

The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, creative, resourceful technical problem solver, highly self-motivated, and have a strong background in one or more of the mechanical, electrical or software development areas with knowledge of lithium ion battery technology. They should be capable of reading mechanical drawings and/or electrical schematics, reviewing CAD files (SolidWorks), reviewing analysis results, and communicating technical topics to engineers and customers.

This is a fast paced and challenging position that requires someone who is confident in their ability to lead, communicate, and make well-reasoned decisions under tight deadlines. The candidate’s ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal and capable of rapidly integrating technological capabilities with application requirements.

  • Work with customers, distribution, sales, service, supply chain, operations and engineering – interface and interact with all aspects of the business to take develop and execute a product strategy to continue to be a market leader
  • Work with business development to assist in understand the markets pain points and needs, and developing a product that address the markets needs
  • Lead, coordinate, review and evaluate product requirements in terms of specifications, cost targets, features, operational needs, environmental requirements
  • Work with project stakeholders and end users to elicit, understand, analyze, and document the requirements for a system
  • Investigate “parent” requirements and generate “child” requirements
  • Perform requirements traceability
  • Conduct regular status and coordination meetings both internally and with customers
  • Review customer specific requirements, develop market broad systems and product family architectures and roadmaps, create/derive requirements, iterate and make product trade off decisions based on bottlenecks, costs, schedules, new technical learnings, customer feedback
  • Participate in system analysis and technical design reviews
  • Analyze designs against requirements for compliance; perform requirements compliance analysis
  • Generate costed BOM targets -Interface with engineering and supply chain leaders on developing bill of material for battery pack costing
  • Communicate requirements status
    • Inform engineering staff/PMs to new, modified, deleted, and satisfied requirements
  • Perform market analysis such as competitive market pricing, features, and incorporate into the consideration of the requirements
  • Assist in marketing and sales material development
  • Support new business development with commercial and industrial motive customers including product requirements, timing, and budgets
  • Responsible for the products ability to meet the customers needs through out the product life cycle
  • Participate in cell selection, pack assembly, and battery testing with other members of the organization
  • Articulate and apply the companies advanced technologies, product features, and benefits to customers
  • Provide technical support and new product introduction hand offs to the sales organization
  • Identify relevant technical issues that pertain to individual customer applications; elevate product issues within the organization and address via corrective preventative action reports
  • Provide solutions to customer’s needs that match with the company’s current and future product offerings
  • Act as the intermediary between sales and advanced engineering
  • Participate in development of new technologies and provide feedback on the potential application opportunities
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers through the product development process
  • Recommend continuous product and performance improvements
  • Provide direction to build 3D CAD Models for battery pack packaging evaluation, working with a designer
  • you will be expected to support regular internal and external meetings, working with sales and operations to communicate market needs and address critical paths and make critical product trade off decisions
  • participating in customer visits, supporting trade shows, assisting in presentation material, evaluating customer applications
  • establish and maintain professional relationships with supplier partners and dealers that will provide services necessary to deliver, install, and support a product offering
  • address and develop documentation or solutions for operational, installation and or technical questions

A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Engineering with at least five years of hands-on experience in the design and manufacture of lithium ion batteries and battery pack development is desired for this position but not necessarily required. A proven track record in developing design wins and delivering product is essential. The position will be based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or another technical field required
  • 5+ years of experience in high tech product development
  • Lithium Ion battery or Lift Truck experience (desired but not required)
  • Excellent communication, creative technical problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and motivational skills required
  • Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, Project
  • Able to create and manage requirements; manage a project to closure
  • Self-motivated individual comfortable making challenging decisions and leading a fast-paced development
  • Experience in a system’s engineer role
  • Experience in architectural frameworks and development
  • Knowledge in FMEAs, DVP&Rs, and sequence/context diagrams
  • Knowledge in Life Cycle Management, APQP, and PPAP processes
  • Knowledge of Lithium Ion batteries, Electronics or Electrical components a plus
  • Up to 20% travel
